1.CANDY

Kandy is one of the most beautiful cities of Sri Lanka that is known for its scenic beauty and rich cultural value, the last royal capital of Sri Lanka, Spread over an area of around 1940 square kilometers; it is counted amongst the world heritage sites of UNESCO. Kandy is a large city in central Sri Lanka. It’s set on a plateau surrounded by mountains, which are home to tea plantations and biodiversity rainforest. The city’s heart is scenic Kandy Lake (Bogambara Lake), which is popular for strolling. Kandy is famed for sacred Buddhist sites.

2. The sacred city of Anuradhapura

Anuradhapura the ancient and sacred city lies on the banks of the Malvathu Oya, is the sacred centre of the island’s Buddhism. The holy 2,000-year-old Bo Tree, grown from a sapling of the Bhodi tree under which the lord Buddha attained enlightenment, some well preserved ruins of ancient palaces, monasteries and monuments that are attracting visitors to explore.

3.The Sigiriya rock fortress

Sigiriya is Constructed by King Kasyapa at the end of the 5th Century, it is also called “The Lion Rock” as it is built in the form of enormous lion. Oldest landscaped gardens, Mirror wall that has verses dating from as early as the 8th century as well, a terrace at mid-level with the Lion Gate, The flat top of the palace that is decorated with colorful frescoes are Sigiriya’s most popular attraction.
Climbing the Sigirya Rock is not an easy task and you will pass through some large rock structures which is evidence of how advanced the people were in areas such as culture and engineering.

4.The Dutch fortifications at Galle

Galle is a seaside town on the southwestern coastal belt is considered to be Sri Lanka’s most historically interesting city. Galle Fort is Number 200 on UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites and is free to enter and explore.
Major landmarks within the fort are Old Dutch Hospital, New Orient Hotel, National Maritime Museum and Dutch Reformed Church. The place is now a major hotspot for tourists visiting the south after Ministry of Cultural Affairs launched a project to restore the Fort to its former glory.

5.The cave temples of Dambulla

Dambulla is situated in the central part of the country, Dambulla Cave Temple also known as the Golden Temple of Dambulla is a world heritage site in Sri Lanka. Caves which contain Lord Buddha statues and paintings related to his life, 153 Buddha statues, 3 statues of Sri Lankan kings and 4 statues of gods and goddesses are major attractions. Depictions in the walls include Buddha’s temptation by Mara (demon) and Buddha’s first sermon, delicate paintings covering the ceiling and walls in the temple, archaeological and artistic implications make this place a must-see.
